This building, built in 1894, dates from long before the Nazis changed the meaning of the swastika in public consciousness to a symbol of tyranny and slaughter. For centuries before World War 2, it was symbol of good luck and well being. It is in that sense that it was incorporated into the facade of this hardware store in downtown Manitowoc.
