Inscribed on the blade is the named of the maker, Hartolfr, this impressive sword is decorated with a series of swastikas on the hilt. Their meaning as a decorated motif is uncertain; their may have had a cosmic meaning or have referred to the cardinal directions.
He took the foto in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
