Swastika and bodyart
I took this portrait of my friend Ben because of his interesting tattoos, and for the meaning of them. He is buddhist, and a profound lover of Thailand culture and it's theravada buddhist tradition; interested also in the art of "Sak Yant" (sacred tattoo). He has these tattoos of the swastikas on shoulders and chest, and the hindu mantra "ohm" on the belly. I didn't take a picture of the sutra tattooed on his back, interesting as well.
He's a promoter of a movement called "Save the Swastika", for the revaluation of this symbol, which got a bad reputation because it has been used by Hitler on the flag of the nazi party. But actually, it is a sign with completely different meaning and background in the far east, coming out from the hindu and buddhist tradition.
